Aikido Mesa Arizona – Bushin Ryu Aikido
What is Aikido?
Aikido Mesa AZ at the Budo Shingikan Dojo can be described as The Way of the Spirit of Harmony. The martial art of Aikido is studied for both self-defense and self-improvement. Bushin Ryu is the name given to our Aikido taught at the Budo Shingikan Dojo. Our Aikido comes from a strong lineage with originated as Seidokan Style Aikido. The Seidokan style was created by Kobayashi Sensei who was a direct student of Tohei Sensei. Hence our lineage can be tied to these two men back to O’Sensei the founder of Aikido.
What makes Bushin Ryu Aikido different?
The main defining aspect that makes our Aikido different is that our Sensei puts an emphasis on using Aikido as a martial vehicle first, meaning that if the practitioner of Aikido becomes so focused on self development and internal study that they lose their focus as to what utilitarian purpose a martial art is used for the practitioner is putting themselves at risk believing that they can defend themselves when in truth they cannot. The Bushin Ryu system of Aikido makes the student take a truthful look at themselves and asks the question “why”? What is the purpose to your training? Now while we understand that many people come to the martial arts for various different reasons and ALL are acceptable, we must not forget the value of that of Self Protection for oneself and ones family. We put the martial application of Aikido first and the more spiritual pursuits of the art second.
It is important to note that Bushin Ryu Aikido is Budo and we love the cultural and traditional background that goes with the classical Japanese Martial Arts. Aikido is deeply rooted in the centuries of war that prevailed in Japan and comes from a very turbulent and violent past. Understanding the roots to this incredibly exciting and rewarding martial art is imperative for the practitioner to truly understand the “Art of Peace”. If a student does not truly understand war (Bu – Do) and intimately familiarize themselves with the ugliness of violence then how can the student chose the peaceful route or truly understand what it takes to create and foster peace. We take a good look at the martial studies (budo) so that we understand reality as it is in an effort to create and teach peace!
